Comence Commercial

A few weeks ago i did a pitch to the class about an public service announcement about bottled water and the effects it has on the environment and to people halfway around the world. Before i did the pitch, i did some research myself to gather infomation for the commerical. I found out that the bottling companies make 86.4 billion dallors everyyear and 178 billion litres of water is pumped out too by the bottling companies. Even saftey was researched and found out that tap water is tested twice as much more than bottle water is. In my commerical i have the facts come up with a picture in the background of the effects of bottle water. I had good talk about it after was ask why bottle water harms people in third world countries and my answer was that the price of water goes up becuase of the depletion of the water. I have my PSA outline below:

Team Discovery Channel

We were divieded into groups and did surveys for 91x, we did a report and presented the infomation. This is our report and our findings

This report is perpetrated for 91x radio station and for marks for the media experience program. The goal of this report is to gather information about the radio stations in the Belleville region. In the process of gathering information, the surveys were conducted by paper to random participants in Loyalist College. Twenty-Four questions were asked to sixteen people. The data was processed and graphed to show the results of the surveys. In this report there will be the results of the surveys and recommendations for 91x to improve there ratings. In the report, there is a breakdown of who listens to what radio station and were, when, what do you do when listen and leisure time. Each question will be talked about and evaluated in terms of what the data says and what actions would improve the radio station.
What students listen to on the radio; Out of all the students we surveyed, 100% of them listen to the radio. The Mix 97, and 91x are the top two most listened to radio stations, followed by K-rock, Classic Hits and Cool 100 coming in second. The least listened radio stations are CBC and Iceberg Radio. 91x is the top listened to radio station in the College, therefore no changes should be made based upon the popularity. When it comes to news, 56.3% of people listen to the radio, the top stations being K-rock and CBC. To increase the amount of people listening to local station for news, make the news broadcast more appealing to listeners. The most popular genre of music people listen on the radio is Rock, followed by Hip-hop and Rap. Rock is the main genre played on 91x so there is no need to change what music is played.
Where and When students listen to the Radio
Majority of students listen to the radio at home or their car while on their way to school in the morning. Those who don’t listen to the radio in either of these places listen to the radio at work. Most people listen to the radio during the morning and daytime hours. Because most students are light listeners (meaning they don’t listen to the radio for more than 2 hours at a time), 91x should promote events that will be happening later in the daytime (contest qualifications etc.) to prolong the length of time people listen. They should also play more music in the morning because that is what the majority of listeners are turning on their radios for.
Daily Activities and Radio
The majority of students we surveyed participate in sports, watch TV, and go to clubs during their daily activities. To promote listenership you could advertise events hosted by the station on TV, broadcast more sporting events, as well as have a high energy music program for those who listen to the radio while exercising.
Contests and Entertainment Purchases; Hardly any of the students we interviewed participate in contests hosted by 91x. Majority of them do however shop online with credit cards and interact. By creating an online store on the stations website, the station can promote events and contests when people go on the site to get 91x gear. Contests prizes should appeal to the majority of students, such as text book discounts and entertainment based prizes seeing as 56.3% of students spend at most $50 weekly on entertainment. (video games, CD’s etc) Other Info
The Majority of students who listen to 91x are females aged 18-24, who make $0-10,000 annually. To attract more listeners of older age categories, 91x should promote radio shows that are designed specifically for those age groups. They should also try and keep the listeners they have already, by having shows that are female based.
We have founded out that people still listen to the radio and they also listen mostly in the car and at home. 91x is still one of the most listened to radio stations in the Belleville area with mix 97. People do not listen much too paid radio and internet radio making public radio still popular. We found out when, where and what they’re doing at the time. Rock is still the most popular type of music among college students. Loyalist college students on average go to school around 8-9AM and they listen to the radio in the morning, most often. Their leisure times were recorded too. Public radio is still here to stay.

Music of Nature or Nature of Music?

After hundreds of genreations, we have never abandon the tribunal gathering of people. Since the begining of civilization, music has been the gathering of people and revolution of change of society, love, passion, concepts, politics, generations and music, it's self. People move to night clubs, bars and even in there homes. Even though portable music devices take away the feeling of a gathering or a persons passion of creative music, we still itch for gatheringunder music, to dance, to be moved, to revolute or to even have fun. It will be with us until the day that humans are gone.

"Music is the universal gathering of people"

The world of Advertising

What a life of advertising, what is the life of an advertiser in college? Ashley Methson is a second-year student in the advertising program at Loyalist College. She agreed to be interviewed about her, in the program and the program itself. “It’s an all rounded program”, says Ashley.”It covers all areas of advertising... there’s a taste of everything”
“The program is general, covers all areas of advertising”, she adds, as the program explores the design and copy writing side of advertising. Advertising program explores layout and design, copy writing and media classes. The fascinating part is that advertising students even have trips to Toronto to attend advertising events. The downside is that the program is located in Belleville Says Ashley. Which is true due to not enough people for an advertising company that is big enough to take most advertising students. But no doubt there kept busy with different style of their program.
“Advertising equals stressfulness” adds Ashley, pointing out that there is a lot of work involved in the program. Still she says, if the program wasn’t busy, it would be boring. Her secret coping with stress? “Lots of caffeine” she laughs. As in the loyalist program of advertising does different types of advertising like television, radio, billboard, posters, logo and magazines.
They also do brills advertising which is like stickers and magnets. They mostly do print than anything else. As they did television, they had to do a story board and a script that should make a thirty second commercial. One student in her year won the Walter Bell award for making a logo for a local, non-profit organization. “A taste of everything” adds Ashley, as it shows in how many types advertising they do. Their faculty acts like a mosaic, that helps them achieve their goals in the future of advertising. Rob is the designer, Charlotte is the copywriter and Harvey is the strategic planner. Ashley’s long term goals as a PR project manager or coordinator in a non-profit organization. Ashley worked for the Heart and Stroke foundation that makes her a step closer. A commercial that moved Ashley is the cancer society’s campaign, were a young boy was using a sling and people came and joined him which reflects the David and goliath.
Ad-gab, an event the advertising program holds at mix-97.1building, were the class gets together and discuss current ads. The event has munches and refreshments for the students that attend. The students are encouraged to bring an ad that they would like to discuss. One ad was discussed at ad-gab in which Discovery Channel, the highest standards of airtime permission. Anything that’s not around the genre of Discovery Channel is not shown. One time Discovery Channel most likely out of desperation, aired a vagina cleaner called “Refresh” which is way-out of the ordinary for discovery channel. But out of the ordinary wins the viewers attention.
Originality wins the awards; the advertising program gives awards to the most enthusiastic future advertiser. Ashley won the “Most Enthusiastic Advertiser” award last year, in her first year in the program. Shows that she’s a “Role Model” for her co-scholars. There are also, the crystal awards, which are awarded to people, who do an outstanding job on there work. Grades have nothing to do about getting an award. Ashley says she is also “hoping to win a crystal award, this year”.
There are lots of opportunities for growth in the advertising program.. As the students are offered one year, two year and three years in the program. Even one year can give a person, a J.R position in the field. Second and third year, skies the limit. The advertising careers are very rewarding, as it’s one of the only jobs, were an employee can double his/her wages in one or two years. Also with help from people in the fields another milestone.
Men and women in the field come and talk to the Loyalist College students about what it’s like in there field or work. One class called “exploring careers”, gives insight into professionals’ experience in the field, which gives the students a head start. One guest speaker who helped Ashley in her career path, was a grad from Loyalist College in 2006, and was Mat Kearney. He gave advice to make a short (one year) and a long (5 years) plan and write it down. In this plan, students would be able to see where their path was leading and that “nothing in school is a waste”. In the field, stay on a job for more than a year, even if you don’t like it, just to get your name out because the advertising industry is very small.
Though Ashley’s experience with instructors, guest speakers and knowledge about the field, he will no doubt succeed in her dreams and hopes in life. Her wisdom and personality has what no knowledge can give.

Re: Inauguration news silent or censored in some Countries

China: The Chinese government are an institution of popaganda that censors infomation if it does not benifit there country. The chinese government would not want there citizen to know about pro-american popaganda and also want there citizens to know about Barack Obama's plans on how to promote the export of American goods because this would reduce imports from China. If the people of there country would be concerned about the future economy, the way the Chinese government keeps there citizens under control is by giving them lack of infomation on there economy and future economy of there country. China is very cautious about what there citizens see and not see.

Isreal: In there current position, they are very cautious on there future relations with the Unitied States. Isreal is being paid around $84,854,827,200 in total since the U.S has been funding Isreal. But they don't want to use faith to say that he will help them but using hope instead.

Afghanistan: Afghanistan has been in civil war for atleast hundred years and they have been occuped by many countries in there long brutal history. Countries like Canada, USSR, U.S, Britian and many war lords from Al Qaeda, Taliban, Nothren Afganistan Alliance (N.A.A). They don't have very much hope for good changes for there country and feel like that everything is going to be the same.

North Korea: Is a dictatorship communist country, they don't let infomationan in or not of the country. People can not leave the country and people enter the country. They simply do not want outside influence to infect there political status.

My first blog for Media Experience

Hello Everyone
As i woke up at 9:00pm, i panic'd to get a ride to the school and i knew that i would be late. I forgot that i was doing the first class of blogging. I scrammbled all over the college, not remembering where the class was, then pulling out my Media Experience binder and looking at the schedule and realized that it's 2H11 not 3H11 so i rushed my self to the second floor from the thrid floor with my shoe lase undone and lost my self again until i saw some people from my class in a room and success, i have found my class! A little late no doubt there. Now i'm writing my first blog and first blog workshop. I started up a new account on blogger.com and made my first home page. I was undecided on what to call it so, i went to a bland title which was Graham's Media Experience but you know whatever works!

This is Graham Berry at Loyalist College in the Media Experience Program.
